About me

Name:
Marijana Petrović

Date of birth:
01.10. 1970

In the paintings of Marijana Petrović we can see motifs of nature, landscapes and cities made with oil on canaves technique, wich have been placed in a new artististic framework through the transposition of natural elements. In her paintings, the driving force of nature, which is in constant motion, is successfully captured.

During the creative process, the impasto technique was used, a layerd, pastel painting where you can see the brushstrokes that highlight the texture and materialization of the shape of the surfaces.

The emphasis is on tactility and rich colours. She uses colour as a basic means of expression and emphasies its expressive functions. With thelargebrushstrokes, she applies carefully selected shades of colour to the canavas using cotrast to set the basic composition and organize the picture; for her colour is the symbol of life as well as a means of expressing the artist’s deepest feelings and experiences. Shades of yellow and ocher are dominant, often contrasted with tones of blue and purple. Complementary contrasts of red and burgundy shades are oposed by blue and green tones.

Underpainting looms beneath every surface. Paint is often applied with a spatula in order to obtain different textures. The artist uses a light palette and belives that colour is something that slips away from time to time, it is elusive in real life as well as in pictures.

A kind of artistic handwriting is characterized by strokes that move in a certain rhythm; all of which evokes of the harmony of movement in nature.
In the paintings of this artists, the influence of Van Gogh, Monet and Hockney can be seen through the motifs of nature, colours and gamma. The pictures reflect the beauty, spirit and feelings that are aroused in every observer of her works because she successfully perceives and transports strong inner impressions on the canvas. The artist sees the expression of the soul in the whole, in nature, in trees and flowers.
As for Van Gogh and for Mariana, painting is „ working oneself through an invisible iron wall that seems to stand between what one feels and what one can do.“
